Peter Cullen: The Iconic Voice Behind Optimus Prime Passes Away at 85
Peter Cullen, the legendary voice actor whose deep, resonant tones brought to life some of the most beloved characters in animation history, has died at the age of 85. Cullen’s career spanned over five decades, and his voice was a familiar presence in countless homes, from the heroic Optimus Prime in Transformers to the gloomy Eeyore in Winnie the Pooh. His passing marks the end of an era for fans who grew up with his iconic performances.
Cullen’s versatility was unmatched. Beyond his most famous roles, he lent his voice to a wide array of characters in the 1980s and 1990s, including Monterey Jack in Chip ‘n Dale: Rescue Rangers, Venger in Dungeons & Dragons, and various roles in Spider-Man, Donkey Kong, Alvin & the Chipmunks, My Little Pony, DuckTales, and Gummi Bears.
