Up to 60 MPH Wind Gusts Threaten Power Outages Across Northeast as Nor’easter Slams East Coast

A powerful nor’easter is bearing down on the Northeast this weekend, bringing wind gusts of up to 60 mph, heavy rain, and coastal flooding that threaten power outages and travel disruptions across the region. New York City, Long Island, and Boston are among the areas facing the most significant combination of wind, rain, and high-tide flooding, while parts of coastal New England could receive up to 5 inches of rain. The storm has already prompted Major League Baseball to relocate Saturday’s Red Sox-Cubs series finale from Boston to Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg, Florida, due to the dangerous conditions.

According to The Weather Channel, the most significant coastal flooding is expected from the northern Outer Banks of North Carolina through southern New Jersey, including the Virginia Tidewater, Chesapeake Bay, and Delaware Bay. New York, Boston, and Philadelphia are among the major cities in the storm’s path, with authorities warning of possible flooding, fallen trees, power outages, and travel disruptions. The Federal Aviation Administration has also warned that the nor’easter could lead to flight delays and cancellations across the region. A state emergency operations center will remain activated 24/7 for the duration of the storm to coordinate response efforts.

Saturday marks a key period of impact, with strong winds and locally heavy rain across coastal New England. By Sunday, the nor’easter should weaken, but showers and gusty winds could remain across parts of New England and the Hudson Valley. Remaining showers should gradually move out of the Northeast by Monday. Residents are urged to stay informed, prepare for potential power outages, and avoid unnecessary travel as the storm continues to pose a serious threat to life and property.
