Taylor Farms Expands Recall of Jalapeño Products Amid Salmonella Outbreak

Post

Taylor Fresh Foods, a subsidiary of Taylor Farms, one of the largest produce companies in the United States, has issued a recall for more than a dozen jalapeño-containing products, including salsas, dips, and sandwiches. The recall was initiated after Coast Citrus Distributors voluntarily recalled fresh jalapeños due to possible salmonella contamination. The affected products were distributed across 26 states, including Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Massachusetts, Maine, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Mississippi, Nebraska, New Hampshire, New York, Ohio, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Vermont, Wisconsin, and West Virginia. These items were sold at major retailers such as Walmart, Kroger, and Target, among others.

The recall covers a range of products, including Pico de Gallo Salsa (7 oz.) and Rice and Bean Burritos (12 oz.), with specific sell-by dates ranging from July 7 to July 14. The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) has also issued a public health alert for certain meat and poultry products that may contain the impacted jalapeños, expanding the scope of the investigation. Federal investigators are currently probing a multistate salmonella outbreak linked to these products, and the recall is a precautionary measure to protect public health.

Taylor Farms emphasized its commitment to food safety, stating, “We maintain rigorous food safety standards and work closely with our suppliers, distribution partners, and restaurant teams to help ensure the safety and quality of the food we serve.” The company is cooperating with regulatory agencies and has urged consumers who purchased the recalled items to dispose of them immediately or return them to the place of purchase for a refund. Consumers are also advised to monitor for symptoms of salmonella infection, which include fever, diarrhea, and abdominal cramps, and to seek medical attention if symptoms persist.

This recall highlights the importance of supply chain vigilance in the produce industry. Taylor Farms, a key supplier to retail giants like Walmart, Costco, and Target, has taken swift action to mitigate risks. As the investigation continues, consumers in the affected states should check their refrigerators for recalled products and stay informed through official FDA and USDA announcements. The company’s proactive response underscores its dedication to consumer safety and the integrity of its products.
