Granit Xhaka Under Investigation in Switzerland Over Alleged Fake COVID Certificate
Sunderland captain and Switzerland international Granit Xhaka is facing a legal inquest in his home country over allegations linked to a forged COVID-19 vaccine certificate. According to Swiss outlet Blick, the Lucerne public prosecutor’s office is investigating the midfielder in connection with a doctor who is accused of issuing fake COVID certificates. In Xhaka’s specific case, it is alleged that he received a forged document stating he had been vaccinated against the virus when that supposedly did not happen.
The doctor at the centre of the case, through her lawyer, has maintained that she did administer Xhaka’s vaccination and that the procedure was carried out properly and in accordance with all applicable rules. The investigation remains ongoing, and both Xhaka and the doctor are presumed innocent unless and until a final court judgment establishes otherwise. The case has drawn significant attention in Switzerland, where Xhaka is a prominent sporting figure and captain of the national team.
Swiss media have been critical of the Sunderland star, slamming him for acting irresponsibly. The allegations have sparked a broader debate about accountability and public trust, especially given Xhaka’s status as a role model.
