Alouettes Edge Tiger-Cats 37-25 as Frost’s Four Interceptions Prove Costly
The Montreal Alouettes continued their impressive season with a 37-25 victory over the Hamilton Tiger-Cats at Tim Hortons Field, improving to 11-3 and keeping pace with Edmonton atop the CFL standings. Hamilton fell to 4-10 and remains mired near the bottom of the East Division with a 1-5 record within the division. The story of the game was turnovers: the Ticats committed six (four interceptions, a fumble, and a turnover on downs), and Montreal made them pay dearly.
Quarterback Harrison Frost, making his first start after head coach Scott Milanovich announced the decision on Wednesday, threw for 330 yards but was intercepted four times. One of those picks came early when Frost found Gemon Green of the Alouettes with no Tiger-Cats receiver in sight, setting the tone for a frustrating afternoon. Despite the miscues, Hamilton showed fight in the fourth quarter, scoring 22 straight points to cut the deficit to 34-25. However, Green’s second interception with 55 seconds remaining sealed the win and set up Jose Maltos Diaz’s 33-yard field goal at 14:37 to cap the scoring.
Montreal’s defense was opportunistic all game, converting turnovers into points and never allowing Hamilton to fully seize momentum. The Alouettes’ victory avenged their loss to the BC Lions the previous week, a defeat that Tyson Philpot had warned would motivate the team. “Les Tiger-Cats allaient payer pour l’amère défaite subie par les Alouettes en Colombie-Britannique la semaine dernière,” Philpot had said, and his words rang true as Montreal dominated for much of the contest.
For Hamilton, the loss underscores a season of struggles. Frost’s four interceptions overshadowed his yardage total, and the team’s inability to protect the ball proved fatal. With the loss, the Tiger-Cats remain third in the East and will need a dramatic turnaround to salvage their playoff hopes.
