Ukrainian Drone Strikes Hit Key Wildberries Warehouse and Oil Refinery in Russia
In a significant escalation of overnight drone attacks, Ukrainian forces targeted a major Wildberries logistics center in Russia’s Tambov Oblast and one of the country’s largest oil refineries. The strike on the Wildberries facility in Kotovsk, a key hub for the e-commerce giant in central Russia, resulted in a massive fire that destroyed the warehouse. This attack is part of a broader wave of Ukrainian drone strikes across Russia that have killed at least three people and caused fires at critical infrastructure.
The Kotovsk warehouse is one of Wildberries’ most important logistics facilities in central Russia, playing a pivotal role in the company’s distribution network. Its destruction is a significant blow to the retailer’s operations, especially as Ukraine has been systematically targeting Wildberries facilities since mid-July. In recent days, Ukrainian forces have also struck facilities belonging to Wildberries’ main competitor, Ozon, indicating a coordinated effort to disrupt Russia’s e-commerce and logistics infrastructure.
Simultaneously, the Nizhegorodnefteorgsintez oil refinery in Kstovo, Nizhny Novgorod Oblast, was reportedly targeted, though the extent of the damage remains unclear. This refinery is among the largest in Russia, and any disruption could have wider implications for fuel supplies. The overnight attacks underscore the increasing reach and precision of Ukrainian drone operations, which have now penetrated deep into Russian territory, targeting both military and economic assets.
The timing of these strikes is notable, coming just weeks after a major attack on Wildberries’ largest logistics hub in Moscow Oblast on August 16, which was confirmed by the Ukrainian General Staff. The repeated targeting of e-commerce and energy infrastructure suggests a strategic shift by Ukraine to undermine Russia’s domestic stability and economic resilience. As the conflict continues, such strikes are likely to remain a key element of Ukraine’s military strategy, posing ongoing challenges for Russian logistics and energy sectors.
