Tragedy at Amur Gas Chemical Complex: Fire Claims Lives of Chinese Workers
A devastating fire broke out at the Amur Gas Chemical Complex (AGCC) in Russia’s Amur Oblast, resulting in significant casualties, including the deaths of six Chinese nationals and leaving nine others missing. The incident occurred on Tuesday at the pyrolysis unit, a critical component in the production of ethylene and propylene. According to the Amur Gas Processing Plant, the fire started at an auxiliary technological site of the pyrolysis plant, and the main equipment of the complex was not damaged. Emergency specialists are currently conducting a controlled burn-off of residual process gases to extinguish the remaining fire.
The AGCC is a major industrial facility under construction, heavily reliant on foreign labor, including Chinese workers. The Xinhua News Agency reported that a Chinese contract worker was among the casualties.
