Liverpool rounded off their pre-season campaign with a 2-0 victory over Serie A side Como 1907 at Anfield on Sunday evening. The Reds, who had earlier played out a goalless draw in a behind-closed-doors friendly, secured the win thanks to first-half goals from Cody Gakpo and debutant Jeremy Jacquet. The match, played in front of a lively crowd at the historic 61,276-capacity stadium, provided a fitting end to Liverpool’s summer preparations.
Jacquet, who arrived from Rennes for £60 million in July, was among the starters alongside Alexander Isak, the most expensive Premier League signing ever after his £125 million move from Newcastle in September 2025. The French defender made an immediate impact, scoring his first goal for the club. Liverpool dominated possession and maintained their attacking intent throughout, though they struggled to create further clear-cut chances after the break. Como, for their part, offered little threat, failing to register any significant opportunities.
Liverpool manager Andoni Iraola was without several key players, including Joe Gomez (muscle), Jayden Danns (thigh), Hugo Ekitike (Achilles), and both Giovanni Leoni and Conor Bradley (knee). Despite these absences, the Reds showed solid defensive organization and controlled the tempo of the game. The match was competitive but never explosive, with both sides seemingly content to use the fixture as a final fitness test ahead of the new season.
