Silent Hill: Townfall Continues Konami’s Anthology Evolution with Another Critical Hit
Konami’s revival of the Silent Hill franchise is no longer a fluke. Following the success of the Silent Hill 2 Remake and the critical acclaim of Silent Hill f, the publisher has delivered yet another winner with Silent Hill: Townfall, developed by Screen Burn Interactive. According to early impressions, Townfall is a very good game that solidifies Konami’s direction of turning Silent Hill into an anthology series—one that focuses on the vibes of its predecessors rather than continuing stories set within the namesake town. This shift allows each entry to stand on its own while maintaining the eerie, psychological horror fans expect.
Gameplay-wise, Townfall offers a familiar yet refined experience. Players can choose between Normal and Hinted difficulties, with the latter recommended for newcomers. The game features only two main enemy types, plus a stalker enemy that pursues the protagonist, Simon, in certain Otherworld sections. While stealth is a viable option early on, more powerful weapons become available later, encouraging confrontation. One reviewer noted that by the story’s end, they had killed 92 ghouls, with most kills occurring in the second half. However, the puzzles—especially a few late-game ones—can significantly extend playtime, even with Story Mode enabled. Despite this, the biggest gripe is a lack of character development for the main protagonist, though Simon is not the only playable character, adding some variety.
For those eager to dive in, physical versions are currently only available for pre-order on PlayStation 5. The game also offers New Game Plus, which introduces new content and collectibles for completionists. Overall, Silent Hill: Townfall is another strong entry that proves Konami’s anthology approach is working, delivering a chilling experience that honors the series’ legacy while forging its own path. Fans of the franchise and horror enthusiasts alike should keep an eye on this one.
