Nadia Sawalha Threatens Legal Action Against ITV Over Loose Women Exit Amid Palestine Support
Loose Women panellist Nadia Sawalha has threatened to take legal action against ITV, claiming the network dropped her for speaking out in support of Palestinian rights. The 61-year-old presenter, who has been a familiar face on the show since 2013, alleges that she was removed from the panel due to her outspoken views on the Israel-Gaza conflict. In an emotional Instagram video, Sawalha said she had become “the target of an escalating campaign of smears, complaints, hostile media coverage and targeted calls to have me removed from Loose Women.”
Her legal team has now sent a pre-action letter to ITV, accusing the broadcaster of “direct discrimination, indirect discrimination and harassment because of her protected philosophical beliefs.” The lawyers argue that Sawalha was treated less favourably than other ITV presenters who faced significant public complaints, highlighting a double standard in how the network handles controversy. The legal action comes after Sawalha was reportedly taken off the show in August, with her representatives claiming that her support for Palestine was the reason behind the decision.
The controversy has sparked a public backlash, with a petition calling for her reinstatement drawing more than 20,000 signatures. In her Instagram video, Sawalha urged fans to sign the petition to stop people “being bullied out of their job” for “speaking out against brutal oppression.” She emphasized that her removal was not just about her, but about the broader issue of freedom of expression in the workplace. The presenter’s case has reignited debates about censorship and the treatment of public figures who voice political opinions, especially on sensitive international issues.
ITV has yet to respond publicly to the legal threat, but the situation has put the network under scrutiny. Sawalha, who has been a beloved figure on Loose Women for years, has seen her role diminish recently, and she now claims that this was a deliberate move to sideline her. As the legal battle unfolds, many are watching to see whether ITV will reconsider its decision or whether Sawalha will pursue further action. For now, her future on the show remains uncertain, but her stance has made her a symbol of resistance against perceived injustice in the media industry.
