Fire crews in Foster City remained on the scene Monday, diligently checking for hot spots after a massive six-alarm fire tore through a condominium complex on Sunday afternoon. The blaze, which broke out in a residential building, caused significant damage to dozens of units, leaving residents displaced and the community in shock. Firefighters worked for hours to control the flames, with the response escalating to a six-alarm fire, indicating the severity and complexity of the situation.
According to fire officials, the extensive damage has made it unsafe for firefighters to enter the structure to reach remaining hotspots. “As you can see, there’s significant damage. With that significant damage, it doesn’t allow us to send firefighters in and get to those hotspots,” said a fire official, emphasizing the challenges posed by the unstable conditions. As a result, crews will remain on scene for an indeterminate amount of time to ensure the flames are fully extinguished and to prevent any rekindling.
The incident also resulted in injuries, with four firefighters injured while battling the blaze.
