CNN/SSRS Poll Reveals Record-High Dissatisfaction with Trump’s Priorities
A new CNN poll conducted by SSRS reveals a record-high level of dissatisfaction with former President Donald Trump’s focus on national issues. According to the survey, 73% of respondents believe Trump has not paid enough attention to the most important issues facing the country, while only 27% think he has the right priorities. This marks the highest percentage of disapproval on this measure since CNN began tracking it.
The poll also highlights widespread disapproval of Trump’s policies across several key areas. 65% of Americans say his policies have worsened economic conditions, and a majority believe his decisions on Iran have hurt the U.S. Specifically, only 28% approve of his handling of the Iran situation, while 25% approve of his approach to inflation and 21% on gas prices. Even among his supporters, there are significant pockets of disapproval. Additionally, 61% disapprove of Trump’s handling of the federal government shutdown, which 31% of respondents consider a crisis and 50% view as a major problem.
On foreign policy and immigration, the poll found that 56% of Americans feel Trump’s foreign policy decisions have damaged America’s standing in the world, and 57% say he has gone too far in deporting immigrants living in the U.S. illegally. Majorities also oppose his plans to deport migrants to a Salvadoran prison and cancel international student visas. Meanwhile, about a quarter of Americans (26%) cite the state of U.S. democracy as the top issue facing the nation, rising to 45% among Democrats and Democratic-leaning independents, compared to 38% who prioritize the economy and cost of living.
Despite these negative views, the poll reveals a partisan divide in enthusiasm. Republican-aligned voters are more favorable toward their party (80%) than Democratic-aligned voters are toward theirs (65%). However, Democratic-aligned voters who hold negative views of their party remain overwhelmingly supportive of Democratic candidates (93%) and are broadly motivated to vote (71% extremely motivated). The findings underscore deep dissatisfaction with Trump’s performance while highlighting the resilience of partisan loyalty ahead of upcoming elections.
