Brewers Edge Padres in Tight NLDS, Move One Win from NLCS

Post

The Milwaukee Brewers are on the cusp of advancing to the National League Championship Series after taking a 3-1 lead over the San Diego Padres in their NL Division Series. With their eighth playoff appearance in the past nine seasons off to a strong start, the Brewers are gradually knocking down the remaining barriers to their ultimate goal. Trevor Megill is checking in trying to lock this series down, as Milwaukee looks to close out a Padres team that was arguably the majors’ best in September, streaking to 19 wins in 22 games.

The Brewers, who won a franchise-record 103 games in the regular season, topping the majors and increasing their win total for the fourth straight season while winning their fourth consecutive NL Central crown, have found ways to win despite the series being close throughout. In fact, neither the Brewers nor the Padres ever led a game by more than two runs. Milwaukee took down the 91-win Padres by playing their game and capitalizing on key moments. The bullpen has been outstanding, especially southpaw Aaron Ashby, and a memorable catch from Mitchell in center field helped preserve a crucial lead.

The series will remain in Milwaukee on Sunday for Game 2, with the Brewers’ Logan Henderson and the Padres’ Michael King slated to start. That lead held throughout the remainder of the game, but not without incredible performances from the Brewers’ bullpen. As the series continues, Milwaukee is focused on maintaining their momentum and securing a spot in the next round.
