UK Air Show Season Heats Up: From Hampshire’s Debut to Farnborough’s Global Stage
The United Kingdom’s air show circuit is buzzing with activity as new events emerge and established giants prepare for spectacular displays. The inaugural Hampshire Air Festival, set for September 12-13 at Thruxton Aerodrome, has secured Babcock International Group as its key sponsor. This partnership underscores the event’s strong ties to the UK’s aerospace, defence, and emergency services sectors, promising a family-focused weekend that blends thrilling aerial performances with industry insight. Babcock’s involvement signals confidence in the festival’s potential to become a staple in the UK’s air show calendar.
Meanwhile, the Farnborough International Airshow 2026 concluded its trade week with a flurry of announcements and flying displays, reaffirming its status as a premier global aerospace event. While early days saw major aircraft orders, the final day shifted focus to the ‘Pioneers of Tomorrow,’ highlighting innovation and future talent. The show also revealed an impressive military lineup, with the Italian Air Force and the United States Air Force confirming participation, adding international flair and cutting-edge hardware to both flying and static displays.
Across the country, the Royal International Air Tattoo (RIAT) is already looking ahead to 2027, announcing ‘Tiger Gathering’ as a major theme. This follows a successful 2026 event that featured the German Armed Forces with significant flying and static displays. RIAT continues to honor aviation heritage, with the Commemorative Air Force’s Douglas R4D-6S ‘Ready 4 Duty’ embarking on a transatlantic journey to commemorate the 80th anniversary of Allied victory, a poignant tribute expected to draw crowds.
Adding to the excitement, the Midlands Air Festival has confirmed the legendary Sally B, the UK’s only flying B-17 Flying Fortress, as a major addition—potentially its last appearance. This iconic aircraft, a living tribute to the bomber crews of World War II, will undoubtedly be a highlight. With such a diverse and dynamic lineup, the UK’s air show season offers something for every aviation enthusiast, from historic warbirds to futuristic jets, ensuring the skies remain a source of national pride and spectacle.
