NoiPA Teacher Arrears in Italy: January Payments and the European Pay Gap

This follows the final signature of the new labour contract for the Education and Research Sector on 23 December 2025. The special emission, planned for January, will ensure that teachers and ATA (administrative, technical, and auxiliary) staff receive their long-awaited salary increases and back pay. However, as NoiPA notes, because this is an extraordinary issuance, the actual crediting to bank accounts may vary by a few days from the publication of the pay stub, depending on interbank procedures.
The payment schedule is a welcome relief for school staff who have been waiting for the contract renewal. According to the official calendar, the arrears will be included in the January paychecks, providing a substantial financial boost. This injection of funds is not just a temporary benefit; it also highlights the persistent structural gap between Italian teachers’ salaries and the average remuneration in other European countries.
