Trump Administration Faces Scrutiny Over ICE Arrests and Family Separation After Disturbing New Jersey Video

The Trump administration is under intense scrutiny following a disturbing video from New Jersey that has reignited debates over Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) tactics and the separation of migrant families. The footage, which surfaced this week, shows a chaotic scene during an enforcement operation, prompting renewed calls for oversight and accountability. This comes as ICE agents on Tuesday arrested some of the “worst of the worst” illegal immigrant criminals across the country, part of the administration’s ongoing push to target criminal illegal immigrants for deportation. At least five men arrested had convictions for various offenses, according to officials.

In New York City, leaders have erupted in anger after a federal immigration officer shot and wounded a Dominican man during an ICE enforcement operation, with his five-year-old child reportedly inside the vehicle. Bronx Borough President Vanessa Gibson demanded that ICE leave the city, while NYC Public Advocate Jumaane Williams vowed to make federal immigration enforcement increasingly difficult. The incident highlights the volatile nature of ICE operations in sanctuary cities and the potential dangers to both immigrants and bystanders. Meanwhile, a bar chart showing that street arrests were the most common type of arrests found in immigration petitions across the New York metro area underscores the prevalence of such tactics. Since the vast majority of arrests in the New York area have gone unreported and federal immigration data does not distinguish street arrests from others, the City Reporter reviewed every emergency lawsuit filed by immigrants challenging the legality of their detention in three federal courts from 15 October 2025 to 15 March 2026.

Beyond the arrests, the administration faces mounting criticism for quietly separating children from their parents. While the government has historically allowed families to remain in detention together, the Trump administration has been separating children by giving their parents false promises that they’ll be able to stay in touch with them. These children are essentially left to fend for themselves or are placed with an unknown caregiver, which in some cases has led to horrific endings. And if a parent faces deportation, they also have a legal right to make decisions about what happens to their children, which usually comes down to either allowing the child to remain in the U.S. or having them deported with the parent. The new video from New Jersey has only amplified these concerns, with advocates arguing that
