Vinzenz Rohrer Returns to Zurich: A Strategic Move for Player and Club
In a significant development for Swiss hockey, Vinzenz Rohrer, the talented forward who spent last season with the ZSC Lions, has signed a three-year contract with the club, marking his return to the National League. The move comes after a brief stint in North America, where Rohrer was considered a strong candidate to remain with the Montreal Canadiens organization. Rohrer, who was Montreal’s third-round pick (75th overall) in the 2022 NHL Entry Draft, played two seasons of junior hockey with the Ottawa 67’s in the OHL. His transition to professional hockey began with Laval in the AHL, but the organization felt that a full season in the AHL could have tested his defensive details, physical play, and ability to produce through a demanding schedule. By returning to Zurich, Rohrer steps back into a role where he can thrive offensively, having already proven his value with 25 points in 52 regular-season games, seven points in 16 playoff games, and seven more in 13 Champions Hockey League games last season.
For the ZSC Lions, the return of their own prospect is a major boost. Rohrer’s offensive skills and familiarity with the team’s system make him an immediate asset as they aim to defend their National League and Champions Hockey League titles. The club’s management, led by sports director Sven Leuenberger, expressed confidence in Rohrer’s ability to contribute, noting that his development in North America has added valuable experience to his game.
