In a remarkable event that has captured attention across the United States, Nylah Craft, a South Bay native and mother of two, gave birth to rare triplets on August 18. The delivery, which took place at Kaiser Permanente South Bay Medical, required a significantly larger medical team than a typical birth, as noted by Gina Renteria, chief nurse executive. The three boys—Elio, Elias, and Enzo—weighed a combined 19.3 pounds, just shy of the world record for triplet birth weight, which stands at 22 pounds 12 ounces.

When Marco Bernal, Nylah’s husband, first learned that his wife was pregnant with triplets, the news was so overwhelming that he had to sit down on the living room floor. Nylah, who majored in print journalism at Cal State University Long Beach, was equally astonished, asking her husband as he stared at the ultrasound images, “Are you sure?” The couple, already parents to a daughter and a son, now navigate the joys and challenges of a larger family.
