Paris Jackson Sues Michael Jackson Estate Over $600 Million Trust Dispute

Post

Paris Jackson, daughter of the late Michael Jackson, has filed a lawsuit against the executors of her father’s estate, alleging that they have failed to properly fund the family trust. According to court documents obtained by E!, Paris claims that the estate, led by executor John Branca, has maintained an “iron grip” over distributions, leaving her and her siblings dependent on Branca’s discretion for financial support. Her attorneys estimate that approximately $600 million remains available for transfer after accounting for debts and other obligations, and they are asking the court to order that amount, or another sum it deems appropriate, to be placed into the family trust.

The estate, however, disputes Paris’s interpretation, arguing that an unresolved federal tax dispute with the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) prevents it from fully funding the trusts. In a statement to the outlet, the estate said it was able to “secure a ruling to significantly reduce that amount, but the matter has not been settled and could still change.” The estate also denied Paris’s claim that it has been withholding or reducing payments to beneficiaries, calling the accusation “a complete fabrication.” According to Paris’s filing, the lack of funding has left the siblings reliant on Branca for money, and they “instead receive lesser amounts dictated by the remaining Executor,” who allegedly uses this power to deter them from checking his abuses.

The legal battle centers on the interpretation of the trust’s funding requirements and the estate’s ongoing tax liabilities. Paris is seeking a court order requiring the transfer of funds into the family trust, while the estate maintains that its unresolved tax obligations prevent the requested distribution. The estate’s argument hinges on the pending IRS dispute, which could significantly affect the amount ultimately available for distribution. The documents state that “Michael Jackson’s family trust remains unfunded,” highlighting the core disagreement between the parties.

This lawsuit marks a significant escalation in the ongoing tension between Michael Jackson’s children and the estate’s executors. As the legal proceedings unfold, the court will need to weigh the estate’s tax obligations against the beneficiaries’ right to access trust funds. The outcome could have substantial implications for the management of Michael Jackson’s legacy and the financial well-being of his heirs.
