McCray’s First Homer in Two Years Lifts Giants Past Brewers 3-0
The San Francisco Giants snapped the Milwaukee Brewers’ momentum with a commanding 3-0 victory on Monday night at Oracle Park, powered by Grant McCray’s first major league home run in nearly two years and a stellar pitching performance from Tyler Mahle.
McCray, who had not homered since his debut season in 2024, broke the deadlock in the bottom of the fourth inning with a two-run blast off Brewers starter Aaron Civale. The 24-year-old outfielder’s shot to right field also scored Willy Adames, who had reached on a single. The home run marked a significant milestone for McCray, who has struggled to find consistency at the plate this season.
Tyler Mahle was equally impressive, allowing just three hits over 6⅔ scoreless innings while striking out five. The right-hander, who improved to 8-4 on the season, effectively neutralized the Brewers’ potent lineup, which entered the game with the best record in the majors at 81-48. Milwaukee had won 14 straight games earlier this month but has now lost five of their last eight.
The Brewers had opportunities to score but went 0-for-7 with runners in scoring position and left six men on base. Christian Yelich collected two hits, but the team could not capitalize. The Giants added an insurance run in the eighth on a sacrifice fly by LaMonte Wade Jr. Closer Camilo Doval worked a perfect ninth to secure his 25th save. The win keeps San Francisco in the thick of the National League wild-card race, while Milwaukee remains atop the NL Central despite the loss.
