Laura Owens Enters Plea Agreement in Fake Pregnancy Case Involving ‘Bachelor’ Star Clayton Echard
Laura Owens, the Scottsdale, Arizona woman who made headlines for allegedly faking a pregnancy with former ‘Bachelor’ star Clayton Echard, has reached a plea agreement. According to court records, Owens has pleaded guilty to two counts of fraudulent schemes and artifices, one count of taking the identity of another, and one count of perjury. The remaining three counts in the case call for probation. This development marks a significant turn in a case that has drawn widespread media attention.
The case against Owens has been complex and evolving. Initially indicted on 14 felony counts in May 2025, the charges stemmed from fraudulent and illegal activities involving victims Clayton Echard and Greg Gillespie. The original case (CR2025 006831-001) included seven felony counts, but a superseding indictment (CR 2025-007905-001) filed in November 2025 added seven more charges, including forgery, perjury, tampering with physical evidence, and theft by extortion. The trial, originally set for January 2026, was postponed multiple times, eventually moving to October/November 2026. However, with this plea agreement, a trial may no longer be necessary.
Owens, the 35-year-old daughter of San Francisco radio legend Ronn Owens, appeared in court looking notably thin, as her legal team and prosecutors worked to schedule a change of plea conference. She had been allowed to travel out of state for two weeks, with judicial approval, before her indictment. The charges against her included claims that she fabricated a pregnancy with Echard, leading to a cascade of legal troubles. The plea agreement resolves the core allegations, though the court will determine sentencing at a later date.
