Frank Kendall’s Security Clearance Revoked Over Air Force One Leak Allegations
In a significant development, the Pentagon has revoked the security clearance of Frank Kendall, the former Secretary of the Air Force, following allegations that he leaked classified information about the new Air Force One aircraft to a media outlet. The decision, announced on August 9, 2026, comes amid heightened concerns over unauthorized disclosures within the defense establishment. Kendall, a trained engineer and lawyer who served 11 years as an active-duty Army officer, held senior defense positions under President Barack Obama, including undersecretary of defense for acquisition, technology, and logistics, where he oversaw major weapons programs and acquisition policy.
The allegations against Kendall are reportedly linked to his comments about a Boeing 747 aircraft donated by Qatar to the U.S. government for potential use as a future Air Force One. Notably, modifications to the plane from Qatar intentionally excluded American-made Air Force One aircraft components, raising questions about the aircraft’s security and suitability. The New York Times had earlier reported on security concerns surrounding the plane after President Donald Trump flew on it to Turkey for a NATO summit but returned to the United States aboard an older Air Force One, during a period of heightened tensions with Iran.
The revocation of Kendall’s clearance underscores the seriousness with which the Pentagon treats leaks of sensitive information, especially those involving presidential aircraft. The aircraft in question, which has been put into domestic service and used by President Trump, has faced scrutiny over its security features.
