In the 10th, with automatic runner Smith on second, Jeremy Peña delivered a go-ahead single, and Isaac Paredes followed with a two-run double to break the game open. The Astros’ bullpen, led by closer Josh Hader, then shut down the Giants to seal the win.

The win also maintained their slim half-game lead over the Texas Rangers in the AL West. Notably, Hader’s outing was carefully managed, as the Astros are cautious with their $95 million closer, who is returning from biceps tendinitis.
