Russian Pension Increases from September 1: Who Gets a Raise and How Much
Starting September 1, 2025, certain Russian pensioners will see their payments increase, as confirmed by recent statements from lawmakers and pension experts. The changes are part of the existing pension system mechanisms, not a new reform, and will be applied automatically for eligible recipients.
According to Alexei Govyrin, a member of the State Duma committee on small and medium-sized businesses, pensioners who reach the age of 80 will receive a double fixed payment. This means their fixed basic pension amount will be doubled, and the increase will be reflected in their September pension, including additional payments for the days in August after their 80th birthday. This adjustment is automatic and requires no application.
Additionally, independent pension expert Sergei Zvenigorodsky highlighted that some categories of Russians will see their insurance pensions rise to 19,100 rubles from September 1. This increase is part of a monthly mechanism that adjusts payments for certain groups, such as those with dependent family members or those who have worked in specific conditions. The exact eligibility criteria are defined by current legislation, and the increase is applied without the need for a personal visit to the pension fund.
Financial analyst Tatyana Volkova also commented on the upcoming changes, noting that the increases are modest but meaningful for affected retirees. She advised pensioners to check their pension statements and consult the official pension fund website or local offices to understand their specific situation. The news comes as part of broader efforts to support older citizens, with the government emphasizing that all eligible pensioners will receive their due increases automatically.
