Recent reports from the municipality reveal that the duurzaamheidsleningen (sustainability loans) offered by Gemeente Hillegom have been widely embraced by residents and local organizations. These loans, designed to support eco-friendly home improvements, are being utilized for a variety of purposes, including insulating homes, transitioning to natural gas-free heating, and generating renewable energy. A recent study conducted by the municipality highlights the popularity of these loans among homeowners, homeowners’ associations (VvE’s), and community groups, underscoring Hillegom’s commitment to a greener future.
Beyond sustainability, the cultural scene in Hillegom and the surrounding Bollenstreek is thriving. This weekend, from August 29 to 30, the region will be adorned with over 120 vibrant dahlia mosaics, transforming streets and squares into a colorful tapestry. This annual event not only celebrates the area’s rich floral heritage but also brings the community together in a shared appreciation of art and nature. The mosaics are expected to draw visitors from across the country, boosting local tourism and fostering a sense of pride among residents.
Art enthusiasts have even more to look forward to as the Galerie / Kunstuitleen Bollenstreek launches its new season of art lectures and courses this autumn. With a diverse program designed to cater to all levels of interest, the gallery aims to inspire creativity and deepen the community’s engagement with the arts. Meanwhile, the local music scene is also buzzing, following the successful album release party of Albert Mooneys at ‘Het Eiland’ in Beinsdorp on August 22. The event was a resounding success, drawing a packed crowd and marking a memorable milestone for the artist.
