Blake Snell’s Return: A Timely Boost for the Dodgers’ Rotation

Post

LOS ANGELES — The season starts now for Blake Snell. After being sidelined for three months with loose bodies in his left elbow, the two-time Cy Young winner made his long-awaited return to the mound for the Los Angeles Dodgers, and his timing couldn’t be better. The reigning back-to-back World Series champions are in the midst of their worst stretch of the season, and Snell’s presence provides a much-needed spark to a rotation that has been stretched thin.

In his first start since May, Snell showed flashes of his dominant self, striking out 10 batters over six innings against the Kansas City Royals. He struck out the side on 13 pitches in the first inning, marking the first time he’d done that as a Dodger. Although he didn’t factor into the decision—the Dodgers rallied to win 5-4 in 10 innings—Snell’s performance was a promising sign. He built up to 73 pitches, suggesting the Dodgers may not place a significant restriction on his workload as he makes just his second start of the season.

The Dodgers’ front office has been proactive in shoring up the rotation, even adding another two-time Cy Young winner at the trade deadline to compensate for Snell’s absence. However, the primary focus remains on having Snell at full strength for October. With the postseason in mind, the Dodgers are carefully managing his return, but his ability to pitch deep into games already is an encouraging development.

Snell’s return comes at a critical juncture. The Dodgers are fighting for a top-two seed in the National League, which would secure a first-round bye and provide a significant advantage. Avoiding the Wild Card round would allow the team to set up its rotation optimally for a deep playoff run. With Snell back in the fold, the Dodgers’ rotation looks formidable once again, and their championship aspirations have received a timely boost.
