In a pivotal matchup between National League wild-card contenders, the Pittsburgh Pirates defeated the Arizona Diamondbacks 3-2 in 10 innings on Monday night at PNC Park. The game, which featured defensive miscues and missed opportunities, saw the Pirates rally to tie the Diamondbacks for the third wild-card spot. Brandon Lowe delivered the decisive hit, a line-drive single that deflected off the glove of Diamondbacks first baseman Ildemaro Vargas, allowing Billy Cook to score the winning run.
