Iran Threatens Retaliation Against U.S. Bases as War Enters Seventh Month
Iran has issued a stark warning to the United States and its allies, vowing retaliation against U.S. bases if a new attack is launched. According to Iranian officials, intelligence indicates that a fresh assault is being prepared. The warning comes nearly seven months into the U.S.-Iran war, with neither side showing willingness to make major concessions. As global energy markets remain strained, the conflict continues to fuel crises across the region.
On Saturday, Yemen’s Iran-backed Houthis, who have made significant advances along Yemen’s Red Sea coast after the civil war reignited this month, claimed responsibility for strikes in Saudi Arabia’s capital, Riyadh, and on a major oil facility in the Red Sea port of Yanbu. Reuters video showed a massive plume of black smoke billowing from the area of Riyadh’s main international airport after booms were heard overnight. The recent escalation has forced Riyadh into a painful dilemma: continue airstrikes to stop the Houthis from seizing more Yemeni territory or step back to avoid drone strikes on critical infrastructure. Meanwhile, a U.S. blockade of Iranian ports is preventing Iran from selling its own oil, exacerbating major problems in the Islamic Republic’s economy.
In a series of statements, Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) claimed to have carried out a heavy ballistic missile attack on the U.S. Marine base in Jordan known as Camp Titin, located on the shores of the Gulf of Aqaba, killing a large number of U.S. forces and destroying several important facilities and attack helicopters. The IRGC also asserted that the attack destroyed a maintenance center and technical equipment warehouses belonging to the U.S. military and destroyed the U.S. spy balloon guidance system at the base. Additionally, Iran’s army said it launched drone attacks targeting U.S. forces at an air base in Bahrain, a key Washington ally in the Gulf.
These developments underscore the growing volatility of the conflict, which shows no signs of abating. With both sides dug in and regional proxies increasingly active, the threat of a wider war looms large. The international community remains on high alert as diplomatic efforts to de-escalate have yet to yield results.
