However, his production dipped significantly in the following seasons, with wRC+ marks of 74 in 2024 and 85 in 2025. Despite the organization’s belief in his upside, his performance on the season has been underwhelming, and with Patrick Bailey and Austin Hedges solidifying the catching position in Cleveland, Naylor’s path back to the majors with the Guardians was nearly impossible. He will now join catching prospect Cooper Ingle at Columbus, the Guardians’ Triple-A affiliate, as he works to rediscover his form.
For the Brewers, this trade represents a calculated gamble on a player with undeniable talent.
